Stage 1 and 2 Information Technology
Workshops 1, 2 and 3
Wednesday July 16 2008 9am to 4pm
These workshops are the outcome of a collaboration between CEGSA and the DECS Learning Technologies team. They follow on from the year 11-12 IT training days offered by DECS in December 2007 and January 2008. Each workshop will run for the full day. You will be able to attend ONE workshop. Places in workshops are limited and preference will be given to those who also enrol to attend the CEGSA Conference.
Cost: $55 for CEGSA members, $75 for non-members. If you have enrolled for the CEGSA Conference you are a CEGSA member.
Venue: Thebarton Senior College, Ashley Street Torrensville
Follow-up presentations at CEGSA State Conference:
The workshops will be followed by an extended presentation on July 17 for attendees at the CEGSA State Conference. It will focus on design of assessment tasks and assessment standards. Participants will be able to see samples across topics to get a 'feel for standards'. They will have the opportunity to draw some comparisons and see the differences across topics, i.e. programming using VB, developing databases and Web programming.
This presentation is just one of a number of sessions focussing on Year 11 and 12 Information Technology. See the Conference Program for details.
There is some funding available to support SA non-metropolitan, and NT teachers to attend. You can apply for funding on the workshop application form.

Wednesday 16 July
10 am - 4pm @ Thebarton Senior College
NB: The timing is to maximize the possibility of country teachers taking part.
Cost: $66 for CEGSA Members, and if you have registered for the conference you will be a member, or $88 for non-members.
Prerequisites: a basic understanding of word processing, emailing and the internet.
This pre-conference course has been developed to give participants a solid understanding of the potential of Moodle for blended learning, ie, a mix of face-to-face and online. It is a practical workshop and participants can expect to leave with the makings of a course they could use from the start of next term. We will look at a number of examples including a collaboration between a country and a city high school.
You will learn to put course resources online and structure meaningful activities. In particular we will explore editing, course structuring, adding resources and activities, the use of forums, calendars, self-marking quizzes, tracking individual student participation and some basic course administration. There will be an emphasis on ways to access help with developing your courses.
Bring: A range of resources will be available for participants to use if necessary, however, if you have a course in mind bring along a USB drive with potential resources such as Word docs, PowerPoint’s, PDFs and website links. We will use the CEASA Moodle but if your school already has one it would be worthwhile ensuring you have editing rights – and bring your logon details.
If your school does not have a Moodle we can discuss the possibilities. DECS schools can contact Phil Purling, purling.phil@saugov.sa.gov.au and register an interest.
