Internet Safety

As with most web 2.0 applications there is always internet safety issues and the potential issue of strangers and predators accessing children’s work, photographs and personal details on the internet. With Ed.VoiceThread, this issue is minimised as Ed.Voicethread is a secure sight that can only be accessed by educators who have registered before use. It is not available to the general public. Once the teacher has registered they have control over who is allowed to view and comment on each students work. Nevertheless, students still need to be made aware of internet safety risks before being able to access the internet

Bullying

Another problem which could occur is bullying. This has the potential to occur through students commenting on each others work. The teacher needs to closely monitor/control comments to and from students.  This is possible through comment moderation which allows the user to view comments before they are publically made visible on the VoiceThread. If the comment is inappropriate it can be delete before it is seen publically. It is also advised that the types of comments expected are discussed with the class before using the tool; i.e. constructive criticism and positive reinforcement.
