1. What's in a blog?
Thursday 2.10 ASMS LC 7-8, 1st floor
For me 2008 has been the year of the blog. I resolved, in one of those moments you have on New Year's Eve, to blog better. So now I feel I've learnt a few lessons and am in a position to pass them on.
We'll look at where you can set up a blog, talk about why you might like to blog, what makes a good blog, and get you started in the place of your choice. We will also talk about watching the blogs of others, what a blog roll is, tools you can use in your blog, support groups you can join, how blogs help you define your own ideas and how you might use blogs with students for developing literacy skills.
Where you can find me (my blogs that is):

2. RSS Still a Mystery?
Friday 1.00 Studio 14| N108 Lab
Why should you be bothered about using RSS (Rich Site Sydication)?
Because you are missing out on great sources of information! Watching
RSS feeds is a bit like herding cats, although you do have more
control. How do you monitor RSS feeds? - we'll talk about how you can
do it in a browser, an aggregator, or a reader. How do you find feeds
to monitor?
|
How do you find feeds
to monitor? How do you create feeds yourself? How can you use feeds in
your own blog, in your web page, for professional development? What is RSS to Javascript- why might you need that? By the
end of this session you will be off to a flying start with RSS.

3. Using Web 2.0 tools to stimulate professional learning
Friday 2 pm ASMS LC Double
Session Handout
Powerpoint Presentation

This session will focus on what works best. Of all the tools to use what assists that engagement and interaction with other people?
Teachers, like students, learn better by doing, and engaging them in online learning activities is
one way to deliver professional development and to stimulate professional learning. This session will consider, but will not be wholly confined to, edna's experience in using edna Groups, me.edu.au, and in engaging educators through involving their students in online projects such as edna's OzProjects and Global Education websites. Workshop participants will explore the potential of these sites, and have the opportunity to discuss
tactics to involve educators.
