Do Online surveys help students/teachers facilitate Inquiry Based Learning?

Surveys are a powerful data collection technique used on an intentional subset of the population. They are designed to obtain peoples attitudes, beliefs, values, feelings and opinions about a subject matter to determine the need for change. Surveys may include polls, mailed and online questionnaires, face-to-face interviews or telephone interviews.

A survey may focus on either opinion or factual information depending on it's intended purpose, many of these involving administering questions to individuals.
Surveys are commonly seen political polling and government, product knowledge and awareness, social science and health related opinion and within marketing research.
Questions within surveys are usually standardised allowing easy administration, little room for respondent error and an overall effective way of collecting information from a large number of respondents.

The arrival of the Internet has drastically changed the way people in this world live, conduct business, and interact. With the internet being avalible to everybody in some capacity, online surveys have become viable options for businessmen, marketers, educators and government officials to create send and recieve information from their home or office within minutes. Many online surveys give you the option of using templates provided for a range of purposes or the ability to create your own.

The two Online surveys 'Survey Monkey' and 'Zoomerang' have a single purpose which is to create professional online surveys quickly and easily. They both allow the user to either add names and addresses by hand or create an email list with invitations (useful for companies).

Your Survey of Educators page is very interesting as it shows how the tool can be used to analyse and report results. The link to the responses from teachers is also very insightful. I also really like your Jing response about the issue of privacy that was raised during your excellent presentation. Hopefully the survey tools are not blocked in schools - perhaps someone would like to leave a comment about this below to notify others of any potential challenges.
