Brief Bio:
After a career as an ICT Consultant and Manager which started in the '80s I moved into education in the early 2000's. I professed I was leaving the IT arena for good yet soon found myself in the midst of familiar systems and process challenges in addition to the newer challenges of teaching and learning in a primary school. I feel compelled to share some of my learning along the way - especially in making ICT systems work consistently and effectively so we can get on with the business of teaching and learning.
I am passionate about learning with and through ICTs and am keen to foster self-directed learning for learners of all ages.
My current role is ICT Coordinator at Immanuel Primary School.

Managing ICTs
This session is about Building Infrastructure and Supporting Teaching and Learning looking at strategies for providing infrastructure that is reliable, sustainable and driven by curriculum needs.
• What processes and strategies are needed to manage ICT in a primary school?
• What ICT leadership is required?
• Who provides ICT support? How much is needed?
• What can we do to manage, track and account for the time needed to support systems?
• Where do outside engineers fit it?
• How can we improve the user experience with systems that just work? How can we move beyond the nuts and bolts of keeping systems running toward improving learning through ICTs.
• Are ICT resources fighting fires or building infrastructure and enhancing teaching and learning?
In this session we will explore some of the options employed in a primary school for increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of ICT infrastructure – to allow for growth in the curriculum. Includes a brief look at low-cost or open source systems to help manage infrastructure.
